AppStorePulse is the better fit if you want a permanent free plan for one app, App Store market research such as Niche Explorer and removed-review tracking, or an install funnel without setting up BigQuery. Ranksy is the better fit if you need to follow a keyword all the way to the merchants who paid, with revenue, churn, a customer CRM, Meta CAPI attribution and an MCP server included on every plan from $39 a month.

Both products are built for Shopify app developers, not merchants. Both track App Store rankings and pull revenue from the Shopify Partner API. The differences are in what happens after the install, how many keywords you can track, and who gets AI access.

Where AppStorePulse is the stronger choice

AppStorePulse puts a lot of work into App Store research. Niche Explorer scores more than 120 categories on supply, demand, concentration and momentum. App Store Insights tracks launches, removals and pricing splits across the store. Removed-review tracking keeps the text of reviews Shopify took down and flags the ones worth appealing. If you are still choosing a niche, or you care about review recovery, those tools have no direct match in Ranksy.

The Free plan also matters. You can track one app with three keywords at no cost, for as long as you like. Ranksy has no free plan, only a 7-day trial.

Finally, AppStorePulse's Listing Analytics is set up from its settings page with no code, while Ranksy's keyword attribution needs your App Store events in BigQuery.

Keyword to install, or keyword to revenue

AppStorePulse's Listing Analytics attributes install clicks from App Store search to the keyword that produced them. Its Revenue & Churn page shows MRR, churn and trials, but the website does not describe revenue broken down by keyword.

Ranksy joins the two. It stitches BigQuery traffic events to Partner API revenue, so a single keyword row shows rank, installs, trials and the revenue those merchants paid. If you decide where to spend listing work by revenue rather than by install clicks, this is the main reason to pick Ranksy.

Ranksy also splits organic and sponsored App Store positions. If you run App Store ads, you can see whether your organic rank is moving or whether ad placement is carrying the number.

Keyword limits and price at the same app count

At three apps, Ranksy Starter is $39 a month and AppStorePulse Starter is $49. At ten apps, Ranksy Studio is $89 and AppStorePulse Pro is $99. The larger gap is keywords: AppStorePulse allows 20 per app on Starter and 100 on Pro, while every Ranksy plan tracks unlimited keywords per app. If you track a wide set of long-tail terms, the cap will decide the plan for you.

AI access through MCP

Both products ship an MCP server for Claude and similar clients. AppStorePulse offers it on Pro, read-only, and its documented tools cover tracked apps, keyword positions, competitors, reviews, audit scores and category rankings. Ranksy includes MCP on Starter and Studio, and it exposes revenue, churn, customers and keyword attribution as well as rankings, so you can ask which keyword produced the merchants who churned last month.

Switching from AppStorePulse to Ranksy

  1. Create a Ranksy account. The 7-day trial starts with no card.
  2. Connect the Shopify Partner API. Ranksy backfills revenue, installs and trials from your Partner account, so your history is there on first login.
  3. Connect BigQuery to turn on keyword and source attribution.
  4. Add your keywords and competitors. There is no keyword cap, so you can add your full list at once.
  5. Run both tools side by side during the trial and compare the numbers.

What carries over: everything that comes from the Partner API (revenue, subscriptions, installs, trials) rebuilds in Ranksy from the source. Ranksy keeps its own category ranking history for public apps. Keyword rank history stored in AppStorePulse does not transfer.
